"Young Lincoln" to be Program
of Thursday Genealogical Society Meeting
From Marynell Bryant
The guest speaker Thursday night for the monthly Hopkins County Genealogical Society Meeting will be Robert Rutledge of Bryans Mill, in Cass County. He was born in central Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois. Robert farmed twenty years with his father as the sixth generation working the same land raising corn and soybeans and milking 150 head of cows.
Rutledge moved to Dallas in 2000 and then back to Cass County three years ago. He is a member and vice president of the Cass County Genealogical Society, a member of the Bryans Mill volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Morris County, Caddo Lake, and Cass County History commissions. His program for the meeting will cover Abraham Lincoln’s life up the point he leaves Springfield, Illinois for Washington DC.

Lincoln's Birthplace
Robert’s collateral ancestor was Ann Rutledge, sweetheart of Abraham Lincoln. He will tell about their love story and describe Lincoln’s life during the six years he lived in New Salem and matured from a grocery clerk to postman to surveyor and into the state legislature.
This program will complement the Lincoln Exhibit now on display at our public library.
