Miller Grove FFA cousins, Cayle Watson and Madison Rater captured the Grand and Reserve Champion
awards in the 2010 Market Goat Show, Thursday night.

Market Goat Show

It was a "family affair," when first the brother-sister duo of Tanner and Taylor Swinson, of Sulphur Springs FFA, captured the Market Lamb Show, and once the "dust was settled" in the Market Goat Show, it was first cousins, Cayle Watson and Madison Rater, who were at "the top of the heap" in the Market Goat Show. Watson and Rater are both members of the Miller Grove FFA Chapter and members of longtime showmen in Hopkins County and the Miller Grove Community. It was Cayle Watson's 103 pound market goat, from class #7, that was selected as the Grand Champion, and then, Madison's 74 pound goat, from class #2, was selected for the Reserve Champion honors!
"I knew I had a nice goat, but you never know what the judge is going to do and what they are looking for on that particular night!" exclaimed a jubilant Cayle Watson. "Mine just fit what he was looking for in a market goat!"
Meanwhile, Madison Rater was "battling" to keep her lamb under control and could hardly relish the win for keeping it still enough for pictures!
There were 88 head of market goats in the 2010 show and following the naming of the class winners and champions, the order for the sale was selected, in a long night in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center Arena, for the judge, the exhibitors, the vocational agriculture teachers and 4-H agents, and the photographer!
