Employees of Sulphur Springs Floral Company were up early and stocking the local florist
with dozens of roses, for Good Neighbor Day, on Thursday.

"Rose, Roses, and More Roses...."

Good Neighbor Day says
"I Care!!!"

by: Bobby McDonald

The staff at Sulphur Springs Floral Company was up early on Thursday morning, as they prepared for a crowd of patrons, that were expected to be into the shop, once the doors opened. Today is "Good Neighbor Day" when dozens of long stemmed roses are available, free of charge, simply by agreeing to distribute 11 of the dozen to friends and neighbors. "What better way to tell a friend, neighbor, or just simply someone on the street, that you care about them, than with a long stemmed rose?" questions Lydia Bryant, owner of Sulphur Springs Floral. "This is the third year that we've participated in the program, because we think there are just so many wonderful people in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, that they deserve to be recognized!"

Lydia Bryant, right, owner of Sulphur Springs Floral Company, and her employees were prepared
for a wonderful day of spreading "goodwill" throughout Hopkins County.

"We have 260 dozen roses for the event, and by closing time, this afternoon, all of them will be distributed to wonderful people throughout Hopkins County," advised Bryant. "Hopefully there will be a load of people go to bed tonight, realizing that they are very, very special!"

I met Lea Griffin and her granddaughter, Shannon Wilson, in Sulphur Springs Floral Company, as they each got a dozen of roses to distribute. Mrs. Griffin, a longtime educator in the Sulphur Springs ISD, now retired, advised that she would be giving her roses to friends, neighbors, and relatives. "I just want to let all of them know how special they are to me," exclaimed Griffin.

goodwill throughout the community.

A dozen roses for friends, neighbors, and relatives......Shannon Wilson, granddaughter of Mrs. Griffin,
was aiding her in distributing another dozen of roses throughout Hopkins County!!!

Wilson stated she was getting her dozen to give to friends and relatives, also. "Between Grandmother and I, we'll be kept busy most of the day delivering the roses," said Wilson. "But, it's just a special way to honor those people that many, many times we tend to take for granted!"

Bryant advised that thus far during the day the roses had gone to school classes, who wanted to take them to the nursing homes, principals at schools who wanted to honor their hard working teachers, individuals who were getting them for friends and relatives, and several who just planned to stand on the street corner and pass the roses to those who came by with a friendly smile. "Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County has to be a much better place today, with that many people spreading love and goodwill throughout our community," stated Bryant. "I feel that anytime you cheer someone along in life's journey, you're sure to 'swell' your own heart with pride and feel better for the rest of the day!"

If you haven't stopped by Sulphur Springs Floral Company, picked-up a dozen roses and passed them to eleven of your friends, it isn't too late to "drop-by" and make a difference in Sulphur Springs!

To a special friend........a single rose to a friend, tells them
that they are appreciated!!!!!
