For a class of youth that were born into a world of (1994) wars in Bosnia, Somallia, Rawanda, and Haiti, and when interest rates were 8.5% and gasoline at $1.09 a gallon, Friday night was a happy and emotional time, as they walked the stages across Hopkins County to receive their high school diplomas, representative of 12 or 13 years of hard work, determination, and perseverance.
The year they were born Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was clubbed in the knee by an attacker representing rival Tonya Harding, in an act that shocked the world. Bill Clinton gave his first State of the Union address as President of the U.S. and the Winter Olympics were being held in Lillehammer, Norway. Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered outside the Simpson home in Los Angeles, California, and days later the famous police chase of the "White Ford Bronco" being pursued down the streets of L.A., ended in the arrest of football great, O.J. Simpson, as he was charged with the murders.
This class was born into a world of a $1.59 loaf of bread and 86 cents for a dozen eggs, and the year of their birth found the UK completing the Channel Tunnel that connected England and France. The 1994 major league baseball season was marred with a 232 day strike and Netscape Navigator was released as the leader in web navigation, as well as Java programing language was introduced for the first time.

They were born into a world that Endorsed Forrest Gump and The Lion King as two of the top movies of the year, and found Bryan Adams, Snoop Doggy Dog, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Rod Stewart, and Bon Jovi all having top hits in 1994.
And, their parents were watching the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, America's Funniest Home Videos, Frazier, NYPD Blues, and The Jerry Springer Show on television.
Certainly, many, many things have changed in this class' world, as they've studied, adapted to a constant barrage of technology, and lived in a world that has been full of both economic and social unrest. Now, it's their turn to impact the world......make their mark.....and hopefully, make a difference for the better!!! We're counting on you, Class of 2012!!!
Congratulations, Class of 2012, and best of luck in fulfilling your dream!!!
