Current SSISD Board of Directors turned the first shovels of dirt at Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony.

"This is a historic day in the history of the Sulphur Springs Independent School District," expressed SSISD Superintendent, Patsy Bolton, as she welcomed approximately 350 friends and supporters to the groundbreaking for the new Middle School Complex, located on the new south loop. Ceremonies began at 9:00 a.m., with a number of introductions of present and past board members, architects, construction personnel, and a group of school children who will be attending the school, once construction is complete.

"Hopefully, the doors will be open in sixteen months!" announced Bolton. "And, many of these children in the audience will be attending this new, modern facility."

Bolton introduced Ryan McKinzie , who spoke briefly as the head of the steering committee to get the $48.4 million dollar bond issue passed, for construction of the new facility. "I think this says something for our community and the future," denoted McKinzie. "It tells everyone that we're looking forward to growth and the education of future generations. I predict it will be a catalyst for continued growth in the Hopkins County area with the location of new business and jobs for our area."

Youth, who will likely be attending the new facility, conducted their own groundbreaking ceremony
complete with a huge sand pile and construction equipment.

Next on the program was Jackie Brice, President of the SSISD Board, who commended the current board, past boards, and the voting public for their dedication to children and their education. "It's been proven that the environment that children see every day, at school, has an impact on their learning," denoted Brice. "For a few minutes, go back to when you were in Middle School and think of the sights, sounds, smells, and yes, the butterflies in your stomach on the first day of school, and remember the teachers, who were there to make a difference in your life. These are the memories that we're creating for future generations, with this bold investment in the future of our community. Students for generations will be affected by the investments we're making here, in this facility, and the benefits will be priceless!"

Members of the currrent SSISD Board, lifted shovels of symbolic dirt, and then a group of young children, who will be attending the school, turned their own dirt, to signify the construction of the new facility.

Following photos, the group visited on the grounds of what promises to be the "star in the crown" of the local education system in SSISD.

Current and past SSISD Board Members joined Principal Rusty Hardin, Superintendent Patsy Bolton, and the school
children, at Thursday's groundbreaking ceremonies.
