Hay Bucking(hay stacking) is a 2 person, timed event to be held in the arena.

Straw bales and hay hooks will be provided. Stacks of straw bales are stacked 15 feet from the truck. The timekeeper will flag the starting time. Time ends when the hay is stacked and both team members throw up their hands. There is no time limit. The fastest time wins.

PENALTIES

5 seconds-each time a bale is completely dropped(it must stay in the contestant’s hand)

5 seconds-if the bales stick out past the side mirrors

10 seconds- if the stack is not in correct and tight order or fall off the truck

12 & under cannot use hay hooks. Contestants will have to move 4 bales and stack them(see chart for pattern) They can drag, carry or roll them end over end.

13 & over –at least one person has to use hay hooks. They can drag or carry them.

13 - 17  have to move 10 bales of straw. 4 on bottom, 6 on top(see chart for pattern)

18 & over have to move 16 bales of straw. 4 on bottom, 6 in the middle, 6 on top –flipped (see chart for pattern). At least one person must use hay hooks.

It is best to have new bales for the adult division, as each division tends to loosen the bales as they drag, carry and lift them. If a bale breaks, the contestant must go back to the stack and get a new bale. Time will not stop.

Contestants must be entered 10 minutes prior to the start of the event.
