New Year, New You!

Many individuals make New Year's resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, eat healthier foods, limit screen time, etc. Those are good resolutions to make, but often difficult to keep. I recently read an article on why people can't live up to their resolutions and it all boils down to emotions - feeling deprived, bored, or left out. Chin up, though! Just remember that your physical well-being depends largely on the choices you make.

Nearly 10% of Hopkins County residents have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Although we do not have an endocrinologist here, help is available through your local Extension office! The "Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes" program has been proven to make a positive impact in many, many individuals in Hopkins County.

"Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes" (DWBW) is a 9-topic, 5-lesson series targeted toward individuals who have type 2 diabetes, but it is also beneficial to those with type 1 or anyone wanting information on the issue. Spouses, children, friends and neighbors have attended with those who have diabetes as a support system.

The next series is scheduled to begin in February. Two times will be offered in order to accommodate everyone. The series will be held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 1200-B W. Houston (former Chamber of Commerce building). Dates and topics are:

Cost of the series is $20, payable at the first session. The fee covers materials, refreshments, door prizes, and samples. Sessions will be held at 1:30 p.m. and repeated at 6:00 p.m. When you call to sign up, please indicate which time you prefer. Please contact our office at 903-885-3443 to add you name to the list. Seating is limited to 25.

Brown Bag Lunch Bunch

We took a brief vacation for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and now we're back in session! Join us for the Brown Bag Lunch Bunch at noon on Friday, January 25th, at the Recreation Outreach Center (ROC) of First Baptist Church. There is no charge, and the fun is free, too! Simply bring a lunch and some walking shoes. We'll meet in the café area for a brief nutrition topic, followed by an inspirational. We will then proceed to the indoor walking track and finish the noon hour by walking.

This is a fun, no-pressure event for everyone! Most people eat lunch, and all of us need inspiration to make healthier food choices and increase physical activity, so why not join us! No registration necessary - just show up.
