Exciting Spring Line-up for Diabetes Programs

Never let it be said that diabetes information is scarce in Hopkins County! Two or three times a year, Texas AgriLife Extension offers "Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes" and/or "Cooking Well with Diabetes". Both of these series are research-based and offer information for pre-diabetic individuals, as well as for those who have been diagnosed with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Good news! "Cooking Well with Diabetes" is just two months away and registration is currently being taken. This 4-lesson series includes the following topics:

All four sessions will include two recipe demonstrations. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample three dishes at each session. Those attending all four sessions will recipe a cookbook called "Tastes of Texas."

Registration fee for the series is $20, payable at the first session. Sessions will be April 16, 19, 23, and 26, at the Texas AgriLife Extension Service - Hopkins County Office, 1200 W. Houston, Sulphur Springs. Starting time is 6:00 p.m. Sessions will last approximately 1-1/2 hours. Dinner will not be provided (sampling only), so participants are encouraged to eat prior to the sessions or you may bring a meal with you. Seating is limited to 25. Please call 903-885-3443 to sign up.

Another great opportunity is the 2nd Annual Regional Diabetes Conference, "Taking the Mystery Out of Diabetes." Sulphur Springs served as the host site for this event last year, and due to the success, we have been asked to host again! Texas AgriLife Extension is proud to offer this conference Tuesday, May 1, at First Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs. The conference begins with registration at 8:30 a.m., and ends at 3:00 p.m. A registration fee of $25 includes catered lunch, all conference materials, goody bags, door prizes, exhibitor fair, keynote speaker, cooking demonstrations, physical exercise demonstrations, and concurrent sessions. I don't want to give away the surprise, but each attendee will receive numerous take-home items. Concurrent sessions will include:

Registration brochures are available at the Extension Office, Hopkins County Memorial Hospital (see Sherry Moore or Kim Sellers), Wound Care at Memorial (see Connie King), Southwest Dairy Museum (see Bernadette McKenzie), and several other locations. All Extension Offices in northeast Texas have registration brochures, as well. Clock hours will be provided for professionals who need documentation of attendance. Please contact our office at 903-885-3443 if you would like more information.
