Twogether...Again!

September  ushers in thoughts of cooler weather, football, bon fires, cool weather fashions, and changing foliage.  Fall is the favorite season for many individuals, including your truly!  That's why I'm excited to announce two of my favorite programs - Twogether in Texas marriage education workshop and "Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes."

Even though it seems like only a short while ago, it is time again to make plans for the next Twogether in Texas.  This marriage workshop is held in Sulphur Springs every-other-month, with the next one scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd.  Four key components are covered in the workshop: communication, conflict resolution, money management, and goal setting.  We also discuss the expectations that each person brings into a marital relationship.  Married couples can also benefit from the discussions and exercises covered in the materials.

Engaged couples who take the workshop receive a certificate, effective for one year, to receive a $60 waiver upon applying for a marriage license.  Best of all, the workshop is free!  I even throw in a few refreshments.  That's a bargain!  It's easy to sign up.  Simply contact my office - 903-885-3443 - and leave your name and phone number.  I'll do the rest!

Here are the details: When:  Saturday, October 2, 2010 Time: 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Where: Texas AgriLife Extension Office, 1200-B W. Houston, Sulphur Springs Reserve your spot: call 903-885-3443

Another of my favorite programs is "Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes."  Were you aware the 10% of our Hopkins County population has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes?  This is a huge issue, not only here, but nationwide.

Thanks to the suggestion of a few courthouse employees, a Diabetes Lunch & Learn series will take place during the month of October.  The same curriculum will be covered and the same handouts will be distributed, but the classes will be held during the noon lunch hour to better accommodate those who only have a short time frame in which to attend.  Here are the details for Diabetes Lunch & Learn: Dates: October 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 22, 25, and 28.  (Notice that classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays with the exception of October 22) Time: 12:00 noon till 12:50 Where: Texas AgriLife Extension Office - Sulphur Springs Pre-registration necessary: 903-885-3443 (leave name, address, and phone number) Fee: $10 one time, payable at the first class

It would be best to attend all eight sessions, as a different topic will be covered each day.  In the event that you must miss a class, handouts will be kept for you.  You will receive a notebook with all materials, recipes, and samples.  Refreshments will also be served, but you will need to bring your own lunch, or eat before or after the class.

Enjoy the cooler weather, and be sure to take part in the Hopkins County Fall Festival.  I hope to see you visit the Household Arts Contest and the Arts & Crafts Show.  There is something for everyone at "Your County Fair!"
