Hopkins County 4-H Members Win at District Dog Show
The District 4-H Dog Show, sponsored by AgriLife Extension, was held on May 3, 2008 in Dallas, TX. The Dog Show is open to any 4-H member within the 22 counties that make up District IV. Exhibitors (or their immediate families) must have owned dogs they intend to show for at least 60 days prior to the show. All breeds, including mixed, are welcome to compete. Dog and 4-H member teams can compete in eight different classes: conformation, showmanship, trick contest, costume, dog quiz, dog ID, educational posters, and dog photography. The show stresses teamwork and follows American Kennel Club classes and procedures but is not sanctioned by the AKC. Beginning dogs are entered in novice classes and more advanced dogs are entered in more demanding classes. Each class has set commands and conditions under which the dog is expected to perform. The 4-H Dog Project conforms to the system of 4-H: “A community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.”
