Northeast Texas Horsemen's Association
Meets Monday Night, at Holiday Inn
by: Bobby McDonald

An excited group of over 80 people that are interested in the local equine industry, were in attendance at the Northeast Texas Horsemen's Association meeting, Monday night, at the Holiday Inn Express, in Sulphur Springs. "You've just got to be interested in the local equine industry," advised Deborah Balkcom. "You don't have to ride or even own a horse!"

The group met and ratified the by-laws for the organization, that had been drafted by the by-law committee, and approved a number of other items. Then, Will Woods, chairman of the show committee, reported that there are several possibilities for the group sponsoring events in the Civic Center, including barrel races, extreme ropings, and AQHA Shows. "We have one of the nicer facilities in this region of the state, so it should be promoted and utilized to promote the equine industry, in the area," expressed Wood.
In other committee reports, Mr. Clayton Pelham, chairman of the youth committee, reported that the organization planned to be strong in promoting youth horsemanship and sponsoring youth activities. The committee has plans of meeting with the new 4-H agent, that will be arriving soon, and to promote a cooperative effort with the 4-H program.

A number of new members joined the newly formed Northeast Texas Horsemen's Association, on Monday night, as they attended the meeting.
Several of the local elected officials, tourism staff, and City Manger Marc Maxwell, were all in attendance at Monday night's meeting, so that they could make plans to work with the organization, as it goes about promoting the equine industry, in the local area.
