First Annual Fall Festival
Horseshoe Tournament Names Winners
by: Bobby McDonald
It was skill, determination, and a little bit of luck, as horseshoe pitchers from across the state of Texas converged on the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center arena, Saturday, for the First Annual Fall Festival Horseshoe Tournament. Beginning at noon, it was after 5:00 before a champion was named.
Participants came from Gilmer, Waco, Waxahachie, McKinney, Arlington, Caldwell, Longview, Pottsboro, and all points in-between, as they complemented the nice facilities afforded them in Sulphur Springs. "They're talking about bringing the state tournament here, in two years," advised Penny Spearman, Chairman of this year's event. "They liked the air conditioned facilities that we provided here in Sulphur Springs."

When the final shoe was pitched, it was the following teams that were named winners:
1st Place, Ray Fellows, Sulphur Springs, TX and Doris Hieden, Caldwell, TX
2nd Place, Ken Alligood, Waco, TX, and Jenette Berry, Gilmer, TX

3rd Place, Louise Alligood, Waco, TX, and Ron Sanderson, Waxahachie, TX
4th Place, Chris Callihan, Sr. and Chris Callihan, Jr., father/son team from Pottsboro, TX
The tournament was conducted using the NHPA rules and provided a fun afternoon for both participants and spectators on the
final day of this year's Hopkins County Fall Festival.
