Hopkins County Memorial Hospital
Flooded Overnight

It wasn't Hurricane "Earl," but members of the staff at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and some patients may have thought so, when at approximately 2:00 a.m., a three-inch water main, on the second floor of the facility burst. "Water was everywhere!" exclaimed a member of the staff. "It flooded the first and second floors and we immediately began scrambling and clean-up!"

Evidence of the 1st floor clean-up efforts were everywhere, as this scene indicates, near the first
floor elevators, on Wednesday morning.

Cleaning crews were on the scene by 4:00 a.m. and "mopping up" began, and continues to be in force at Hopkins County Memorial. "We've got vaccums, fans, and suction hoses running everywhere," advised staff. "And, we immediately called in extra staff to make sure that services were not compromised. So, we're working under some trying conditions, but patient care continues to be delivered!"

The staff at Hopkins County Memorial asks that anyone coming to the hospital, on Wednesday, needs to use the Emergency Entrance, as others are "blocked" with the clean-up efforts.

Trash cans collecting water, suction hoses pumping it outside, and
ladders leading to the ceiling, were all evident in he main lobby area
of Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.

"Our phone system was having some problems, early this morning, but we have that restored," explained the staff. "And, our 9-1-1 services were never experiencing any outages. Mainly, it is just a day of clean-up and getting all of the water removed, and damages assessed."

The break occured in the new construction area of Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and the staff just asks that those affected be patient and everyone will have complete restoration of the facility, almost immediately. "Health care will continue to be provided and we'll get everything back to normal, as soon as possible," continued the staff. "We've just got a few obstacles to work around as we go about deliving local health care!"

Staff at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital are asking everyone to use the Emergency Entrance to
the facility, on Wednesday, as clean-up continues, and other entrances are blocked.
