Saturday's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Names Champions
by: Bobby McDonald
All we could figure out was that the contest was held near lunchtime and there were a host of hungry people! That's what was finally decided for the reason that attracted a huge crowd of participants to the Hot Dog Eating Contest, held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, in the Outdoor Pavillion at the Hopkins County Civic Center. The contest sponsored by Sonic, offered all the hot dogs you could "stuff" in your mouth, in a five minute period, "free of charge!"

The Youth contest was held first and attracted a sizeable crowd of youth. The final winner was Hootie Magnuson, who devoured six hot dogs in the alloted time and managed to do it without getting sick.

However, when it came to the adult division, the organizers had to move in more chairs to expand the contest area, as some 18 individuals gathered to enter the contest and they began an eating ritual, like you've never witnessed. Some dipped their hot dogs in water, others ate the bun first and then ate the "weiner," while others decided to eat more slowly but keep a routine going!
Well, it was Jimmy English, that bested all the other competition, by consuming twelve hot dogs in the prescribed 5 minute time allotment, to be named the 2012 Hopkins County Hot Dog Eating Champion. After winning the contest he said, "It will probably be this time next year before I want to eat another hot dog!"
Jimmy English was named Champion of the Adult Division.
