Billy Jack Allen Named Ice Cream King
at Texas State Contest, Saturday

Retired top Hopkins County Dairy Farmer, Billy Jack Allen,
now spends his time making ice cream, and won "King"
of the ice cream makers, at Saturday's State Contest!

 

With over 60 entries in the Texas State Ice Cream Contest, on Saturday afternoon at 4:00, and a record number of "eaters," the contest spelled success and had some "mighty good eating!" "We had to send some of the directors out to purchase more cups," allowed Meredith Caddell, CEO of the sponsoring Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce. "So, we had a record number of people eating ice cream, and the quality was superb!"

 

 

 

"Judges commented on just how good the ice cream was this year and how very hard they had at making a decision," continued Caddell. "But, it just seems that some of the same people have developed some recipes that continue to please and withstand the competition!"

 

 

 

 

Winning over-all Champion honors was retired top Hopkins County Dairy Farmer, Billy Jack Allen, who wowed the judges with his Banana Nut confection, to take the winning trophy home, once again, this year! Allen and several members of his family enter the contest each year and can be counted to be among the top entrants at every contest, having won honors previously. "It's that good ol' rich milk!" declared Allen, after taking the trophy. "And, the fun part is all the sampling you get to do, as you perfect the process!"
