"Run With Jazzy" Comes to
Hopkins County, Tuesday Afternoon
by: Bobby McDonald
While most teens her age are calling on their cell phones, talking to the boys, and worried about a date to the Junior-Senior Prom, seventeen year old, Jasmine "Jazzy" Jordan, of Ashby, Minnesota, is bringing her own crusade across America. Jazzy entered Hopkins County, on Tuesday afternoon and will spend the next approximately 48 hours making her way, across the area. She began her crusade on September 1st, 2009, on Highway-66 in La Verne, California, and hopes to arrive in New York City, by a lofty goal of April 17, 2010.
"I've got to 'pick-up' my speed and do more, to reach the April 17th deadline," admitted Jazzy, on Tuesday afternoon, as she crossed into Hopkins County, near Cumby. "I experienced a 'set-back' in October, when I received some injuries, as I crossed New Mexico, and wasn't able to run again, until December 1st, so I'm running behind!"
Jazzy makes her way into Hopkins County, on Tuesday afternoon, as her father follows her
in the support vehicle.
The April 17th deadline has a significance, as Jazzy is running in memory of Sheila Kay Grothe, who passed away with cancer, on April 17, 2009. Sheila was an employee of Jazzy's mother's trucking company and couldn't afford expensive medical insurance. Thus, she couldn't receive the treatments that she needed to save her life. Jazzy saw the need to raise awareness of others caught in the same predictament as Sheila, and began her crusade across America.
"Sheila was my friend and couldn't afford the medical coverage that she needed," expressed Jazzy. "Thus, I decided that I could change my plans of running in the 2012 Olympics and make a difference. That's when I talked the plan over with my parents and we began to put the plan into action!"

Jazzy is currently making approximately 20 miles per day, as she gets up and runs her mileage, returns to the family motor home at night, does her homework and studies, and gets a good night's sleep, for the next day. "I stop and visit with school children, churches, or anyone else that wants to hear my story," allowed Jazzy. "My efforts are to raise awareness and make a difference for those just like Sheila, who need help and can't afford it!"
Jazzy takes a break and receives instructions from her father, before making her
way into Hopkins County, on Tuesday afternoon.
