Jeans for Teens an 8th Grader's Challenge

From Sulphur Springs Middle School

Sulphur Springs 8th grader, Emma Boyett, was touched by Rachel’s story in the fall when the SSMS students were presented with Rachel’s Challenge. When her mom came across an email about Jeans for Teens, Emma knew this was her way to pay it forward and start her own chain reaction.

Jeans for Teens is a blue jean drive through Aeropostale and DoSomething.org to collect jeans and donate them to homeless shelters. 1 in 3 people in homeless shelters are under the age of 18. They are in desperate need of jeans of all sizes. Jeans are a way for these teens to feel normal in an abnormal situation.

SSMS Student Council has joined Emma in this drive. The school that collects the most jeans will win $10,000, a pizza party and hoodies for the entire school. Students have been asked to clean out their closets and bring those jeans that are too tight, too short, don’t fit, out of style, or that they just don’t want any longer to school and drop them off in the collection box. Emma will collect the jeans and turn them in.

Emma’s drive at SSMS has started collecting Jeans for Teens and you can help too. The community is invited to help participate by donating jeans of all sizes. Drop off boxes are located at SSMS, Sulphur Springs Public Library and Guaranty Bond Bank. Please bring your gently used jeans to help those in need.

Last day to donate is February 8th.
