"Hot off the grill!"......Members of the Sulphur Springs Kiwanis Club were busy cooking
bacon and pancakes, on Saturday morning, as they conducted their annual Pancake Day
Fundraiser.
Pancakes Were "In Short Order"
On Saturday
by: Bobby McDonald
A steady line of supporters, took advantage of Saturday's great meal, in support of the local
Kiwanis Club Pancake Day.
The weather was damp and cold outside, so what better way to spend a Saturday morning, than to "sleep in" and then travel to the Civic Center for a filling breakfast of "flap jacks," bacon, and all the trimmings? That's what many, many people did on Saturday morning, and even "subdued" the calories, by telling themselves it was all for a very worthy cause!
Members of the Sulphur Springs Kiwanis Club, conducted what has become a February tradition, as they hosted their annual Pancake Day, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, and were aided by members of the Sulphur Springs High School Key Club, in serving the "masses."
Sulphur Springs High School Key Club members aided the Kiwanis Club in serving those
who attended Saturday's event.
"It was cold outside and great to sleep late, and know that you weren't going to have to cook breakfast," allowed Barbara Abercrombie, as she and husband, Morris, waited in line, on Saturday. "It's just lazy weather outside, and this was the place to go, and visit for breakfast!"

For a mere $5.00, it was all you could eat pancakes and syrup, bacon and sausage, milk, orange juice, and coffee. "You can't beat that deal and we return all of the money raised, back into the community," allowed Kiwanis Club member, Perry Altenbaumer. "The money we make from the Pancake Day supports the many charitable endeavors that our club undertakes during the year, such as youth scholarships!"
Bob and Bobbie Neal, from Como, were among those who decided to eat a wonderful breakfast
in support of Saturday's Kiwanis Club Pancake Day.
Saturday's effort lasted until 2:00 p.m., with many from the Four-States Rodeo, being conducted in the Civic Center Arena, taking advantage of the meal, as well as others making a lunchtime endeavor of pancakes and all the trimmings. "We were busy all day, as folks have learned that it's a great meal and reasonably priced, from year to year!" continued Altenbaumer. "We see many of the same faces from year to year, as they mark their calendars for the day of fun and fellowship, with a good meal!"
"But, this one has to be the largest one we've ever done, in my history with the Kiwanis Club," allowed Altenbaumer, on Monday morning. "We're estimating over 1000 people ate and we ran out of bacon, sausage, and orange juice and had to go get some more. It was a great day!"
"This is just the first round!" declared Mason Y'Barbo, as he began his feast of Kiwanis
Club Pancakes, on Saturday. "It's all-you-can-eat, and I like those kind of meals!"
