Lady Lions Headed for State Finals
Saturday Night, With Win Over Highland
by: Bobby McDonald
The quality of the Saltillo Lady Lion's defense showed-up early in their match-up with Roscoe Highland, in the State Semi-Finals, on Friday afternoon. The Lady Lions held Highland to only two points in the first and third quarters and only allowed 19 points throughout the game.
The Lady Lion offense managed to put 41 points on the board, while Highland held Lady Lion Senior, Victoria Stretcher to only four game points, by "double-teaming" her. However, Stetcher managed to get the ball to other team members, who helped to put the win on the boards.
Game Scoring by quarter was as follows:
Saltillo 13 8 6 14 = 41
Roscoe Highland 2 5 2 10 = 19

In an after game interview, Lady Lions Coach, Garry Davison praised his team for their outstanding defensive effort and particularly singled-out Junior Guard, Kendall Bain, for an outstanding effort, when Senior Ace, Stretcher was unable to score around a tough coverage. "Kendall really brought her best game to Austin, this afternoon," expressed Davison. "And, Victoria did an exceptional job passing the ball, so the other girls could score, when she was double-teamed throughout the game. Highland had watched our films and knew they had to control Victoria, so that left some of our other girls open to do the scoring for us. The girls did an outstanding job!"
The Lady Lions will face the Friday night winner of theWhitharral Lady Panthers (37-4) vs. Leakey (24-7), on Saturday night, at 7:00 p.m., in the UT Austin Frank Erwin Center.
