Birthright - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers opened district play falling to Fruitvale 40-36 in a hard fought battle. The teams battled evenly throughout the contest being knotted 8-8 after one quarter with Fruitvale taking a 23-20 lead at the half. The game was tied 30-30 going into the final stanza. "We played hard and cut down on our mistakes, but we were only 3-10 from the free throw line," Coach Larry Tucker said. "The tough schedule we played is going to pay off before its over. We just have to keep our heads up and never quit. I was real pleased with Stephanie Gamez, she really took over at the point guard and had an outstanding game." Gamez led the Lady Panthers with 11 points followed by Kelsey Buchana's nine. Lady Panther Kelley Rumsey was named 2011 Homecoming Queen.

The Lady Panthers travel to Boles Tuesday for their next district encounter.
