Both anticipation and fear had built for members of the Leadership Sulphur Springs Class as they attended Ropes Weekend. The group had met earlier for their Leadership training games and left on Saturday morning for the annual Ropes Course, in Commerce.

It was up early to arrive at 8:00 a.m. and lasted throughout the day, until approximately 4:00. The day began with a series of team building exercises and then the group "tackeled" the Ropes course, as they battle high winds and mainly, their fears. It was a series of maneuvers across logs up in the air, down a zip line, and finally the "dreaded pamper pole, or leap of faith!"

"I knew it was going to be difficult," advised one of the class participants. "But, I had no idea that I would be shaking so, when I got to the final telephone pole and attempted to stand up on it! That certainly takes guts!"

"The zip line was fun!" exclaimed another class participant. "But, the leap of faith is something I'll remember for the rest of my life!"

Throughout most of the day's activities participants were paired with a fellow class member for encouragement through the difficult maneuvers.

"I was surprised at how many of this class actually were brave enought to take 'the leap of faith,'" expressed Leadership Coordinator, Lynda Hager. "This is certainly going to be a great class!"

Members of this year's class will begin a monthly tour of local businesses and will begin planning a class project for the betterment of our community. Then, graduation will be a trip to Austin, to the state Capital and to meet with local legislators.
