Leadership SS Class Meets, Wednesday

It was a full day of activity for the 2012-13 Leadership Sulphur Springs Class, as they met first at the Economic Development Corporation, on Wednesday morning, and received an overview of the steps involved in attracting business to Sulphur Springs. EDC Director Roger Feagley and his staff told the group about the many aspects of the community that companies look for, when making plans to locate in an area. He gave them an update of several prospects of companies that have inquired about coming to the area.

From the EDC, the group then made their way to Pinnacle Manufacturing, one of the newest businesses in Sulphur Springs, and toured the facilities, with a step by step trip through the plant. "I had heard about the company but had no idea, really of what they did," expressed one of the leadership class members. "Now, I know what is manufactured here and see what an impact they make on the community and how many people they hire as welders, etc."

The afternoon tour for the Leadership SS Class was to Ocean Spray, one of the older companies in Sulphur Springs, where the staff took them on a tour of the plant, as well as answered questions about distribution, the actual growing of cranberries, and what it means to be a national company in a small town. "I knew that Ocean Spray was a national company, but I had no idea as to what all was made right here in Sulphur Springs," advised one of the class members. "It was very interesting to see the process of packaging the juice and I was 'blown away' by how clean everything was. I certainly can attest that it is one of the cleanest plants I've ver been in!"

Following a day of tours, the Leadership Class 2012-13 met and elected officers, and discussed their class project. They elected Brandon Williams, as the class president; Garrett Glass as class vice-president; and Kaitlyn Black as class secretary. The group has discussed several projects and will gather more information before they vote at the next meeting on what they will undertake as a group!

Undoubtedly, Tom has been selected the "Class Scholar!"
