"Dinner On The Grounds"
First Baptist Church Hosts Labor Day
Fellowship at Heritage Park
by: Bobby McDonald

All ages enjoyed the Labor Day Fellowship hosted by First Baptist Church on Sunday night at Heritage
Park, as members worshiped, visited, and enjoyed a meal.
A little bit of preachin', a great song service, a prayer of thanksgiving, and loads of food, is about the only way to describe the First Baptist Church fellowship at Heritage Park, on Sunday night! Members of the church gathered for their regular Sunday night service and hosted the evening of fun and fellowship, following the "open air" service. And, the weather wasn't even too hot!
"It was a great way to spend a Sunday night with family and friends," denoted one church member. "And, Heritage Park was a great way to recall the 'Old Days' of church socials and eating dinner on the grounds!"
This food line seemed to be a popular place.
Three generations of the Brody and Mary Koon Family enjoy visiting among themselves and with others,
following the preaching and singing.
Approximately 450 people were in attendance and all felt uplifted by the late summer afternoon, spent in praise to God and enjoying the life we lead here in Hopkins County. "All you have to do to feel blessed this week is to turn on your television and see those who have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina," emphatically stated one member of First Baptist. "Our minor discomforts seem so, so trivial!"
The cooking crew keeps the fire burning and burgers ready, as they await the starting of the food lines.
Joe and Teresa Pogue were among those enjoying the Sunday night fellowship at Heritage Park.

Surely this little girl isn't going to eat all those hamburgers! I bet her granddaddy, Ronnie Glossup, put her
up to fixing him a couple of them. What do you bet?
The Baptists know how to make certain that they have plenty of dessert at their fellowships! A dessert contest was conducted and did you know that Butch Burney was a dessert cook? He won the Men's Dessert Cooking Contest, with an apple pie that he cooked! Reckon' Karen helped just a little bit?
And, then, Mary Koon is known far and wide for her Homemade Peach Ice Cream Recipe. She hasn't lost her touch! Her ice cream was selected the winner in the Ice Cream Contest. Does anyone know what she puts in that stuff? Could it possibly be some rich milk from one of those Jersey cows?
Mary Koon proudly displays the $100 prize she won for her award winning Homemade Peach
Ice Cream at Sunday night's social.
And as the sun was setting in the west, this teenaged member of First Baptist Church found a quiet place
on the pier of the Fishing Pond to reflect on the beauty and abundance of life in Hopkins County.
