by: Bobby McDonald
The Sulphur Springs High School Vocational Agriculture Building was the site of the annual officer elections and planning session for the Northeast Texas Livestock and Dairy Association, on Monday night.
Members received an updated report from Bryant Fisher, superintendent of the Dairy Show, and all plans are ready for the event that will be taking place in the Hopkins County Civic Center on June 17th.

Then, members made nominations and elected the following slate of officers for 2006-07. Serving as president of the association will be Eddie Lampp, who had served previously as vice-president of the organization. David Stevens was elected vice-president of the organization and Tina Jaggers will be serving as secretary. Amy Sells will serve as the treasurer of the show and receive aid from a number of members in converting the show to a new computer system for the 2007 market show.
Members of the organization praise outgoing president, Brad Johnson, who has led the organization for the past two years and set record breaking goals for the youth of Hopkins County.

In another announcement, four scholarship winners were announced for 2006. Receiving $5,000.00 in scholarships from the organization are: Alina Tatum, Sulphur Springs FFA, with a $2,000.00 scholarship to major in agriculture; Cassie Mund, Como-Pickton FFA, who received a $1,000.00 scholarship; Channing Horton, of the Miller Grove FFA, who received a $1,000.00 scholarship; and Candace Vanwinkle, of the Sulphur Springs FFA chapter, who received a $1,000.00 scholarship. The money for scholarship awards are earned by volunteers conducting a concession stand during the various shows thoughout the year and devoting those profits to helping youth in Hopkins County further their educations.
In other action, the group named a partial roster of judges for the Fall Festival Show, that will be held in September, and will be meeting in the coming weeks to fill a complete judges list.
The purpose of the Northeast Texas Livestock and Dairy Association is to sponsor youth related shows, allowing the youth of Hopkins County to learn responsibility through market and breeding livestock projects, as well as furthering their education in agricultural pursuits.
