In what is quickly becoming an annual event, the Miller Grove Volunteer Fire Department Classic Automobile Show got underway, beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday. Registration had to be completed by 12:00 noon and by that time, over twice as many entries had arrived as were present at last year's event. "We extremely excited about how the show has grown," expressed one of the Miller Grove Volunteer Firemen. "We have over twice as many autos entered as we had in the show last year, so that's proof that folks like to come to the show and have a good time in Miller Grove!"

Funds raised at Saturday's event will be used by the local volunteer fire department to purchase necessary equipment and repair existing equipment throughout the year. "It costs money to purchase equipment and to repair equipment and keep it in good working order," allowed another Volunteer Fireman. "This is our major fundraising effort for the year and looks like it will be a success!"

Classic cars, trucks, and motorcyles were each entered in their respective classes and a "people's choice award" was to be chosen by the crowd that gathered to see the show. Local Hopkins County entries, as well as out of town entries from as far away as Tyler, Texarkana, and the DFW Metroplex, were on display at Saturday's event.

Callan Ashmore, of Sulphur Springs, was just one of the local exhibitors,
as he entered his truck in Saturday's show.

Live music, concessions and a dunking booth were some of the other attractions at the Classic Car Show, and many attendees took the time to inspect those classic cars and trucks from "days gone by." "My best friend had one just like that one," expressed J.W. Ragan, as he viewed the classic automobiles. "And, my Daddy had a truck just like that one over there, that we used to haul square bales of hay. I really am glad I don't have to haul a load of hay like that, as warm as the temperatures are today!"

With the increased participation in this year's show, Miller Grove Volunteer Firemen were already talking about ways to increase the room and better the show for next year!
