It was the "battle of the best" in the continued action of the Miller Grove Invitational Basketball Tournament, being conducted through Saturday. On Friday morning, the Saltillo Lions met the Chess Team and found themselves on the losing end of the challenge, as Chess defeated the Lions in a close 77-73 match, sending Saltillo to the losers side of the bracket.

Soon it was Miller Grove and Blue Ridge on the court in some "hot" basketball action. The Miller Grove Hornets continued their advancement in their host tournament as they led the action throughout the game. The final score was Miller Grove Hornets 39 - Blue Ridge 27.

The next game of the day, on Friday, involved a "little bit of a grudge match," as the Yantis Owls faced Chisum. Junior, Pecos Hurley, a starter for Chisum had moved away from Yantis, during the summer and was playing as a starter on the Chisum team, against his former teammates. And, the action was definitely intense. Chisum led through most of the game. However, in the fourth quarter the Owls pulled toward tying the game. In the last minute of the ballgame, Chisum managed a one-point game to take the victory.

Friday afternoon and night games included games scheduled for Blue Ridge, Yantis, Lone Oak, Saltillo,  and the night time match-ups in the Championship bracket of Chisum and Lone Oak and Miller Grove and Chess.
