For Homecoming Crowd, Friday Night

While many coaches would have chosen an "easy victory" for their team, before the Homecoming Crowd, Miller Grove Coach Gary Billingsley, did right the opposite. He searched for a school that would be a definite challenge, in choosing Ft. Worth Zion, to challenge his team. The Miller Grove Hornets, who are looking toward the play-offs, "stepped-up to the plate" and delivered an outstanding performance against a tough team, on Friday night. They lost the game, 89-82, but proved that they have the ability to match with the best of the competition, and will likely not meet as stiff a competition, until deep in the play-offs.

Ft. Worth Zion outscored the Hornets 22-13, in the first period. However, during the second period of play, they made some adjustments and added 26 points to their total, as opposed to Zion's 24. During the third period, it was Miller Grove scoring 16 points and Ft. Worth Zion adding 20 points to the scoreboard. During the final quarter, the Hornets managed to connect with 25 points and Zion put only 23 points in the bucket.

"Zion gave our boys a workout that they needed, as we look toward post-regular season play," expressed Billingsley. "We needed to play a tough team to get ready for post-district play and this team was one that could help us to assess our strengths and weaknesses. They had some boys that could shoot three-point shots from the outside and forced our boys to get accurate and learn some fundamentals of blocking those type of plays! I think this will help us as we finish district competition and look to make a favorable showing in the play-offs!"

"This was one of the best basketball games I've seen all year!" remarked one of the Miller Grove fans. "Our boys certainly shouldn't be ashamed of the losing this one, with the skill level that Ft. Worth Zion showed and the way our team had to adjust on defense to defend the goal. It was truly a great game to watch!"

The Miller Grove Hornets will be at home on Tuesday night, February 9th, when they host Sulphur Bluff for the final district game, and conduct Senior Night. Then, next Friday night, they travel to Yavneh Academy for another challenge, that Billingley hopes will prove to be another learning experience.
