Middle School Art Classes
Contribute to Dairy Festival
by: Bobby McDonald
Students in Mrs. Lynn Ward's Sulphur Springs Middle School Art Classes contributed to the success of the Hopkins County Dairy Festival, as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Students were challenged to use a balloon and paper mache to fashion table decorations for the Balloon Pilot's Luncheon and Awards Banquet, held on Sunday, June 14th.
The students completed the project at the bequest of Miss Kaylene Black, who works at the Middle School as a teacher's aide. Miss Black and her family work with the Dairy Festival Balloon Glow and Rally, each year. "It just seemed like a great project for the students and allowed them to participate in Dairy Festival," advised Kaylene. "So, we asked Mrs. Ward to included this as a part of her art class at the school!"

Well, one student made such an impression, with his craftiness, that the balloon was chosen as a table decoration for the 50th Anniversary Queen's Reception, on Saturday night. Mason Morris, an upcoming seventh-grader, constructed his colorful balloon and painted it like a strawberry. The balloon was so colorful and so neatly done, that it will grace one of the tables at the reception, held prior to Saturday night's pageant, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. The reception will be an opportunity for the public to visit with Former Hopkins County Dairy Festival Queens.
"I came up with the idea, because I like stawberries and think they are the greatest fruit that summer offers," explained Mason. "So, I decided to paint the balloon like one!"
Mason is the son of Deborah Morris, of Sulphur Springs, and Joe Morris of Cleburne. He advised that it took him about two class days to complete the project and that he was excited that his art project had been chosen for the Queen's Reception.
Thanks to all of Mrs. Ward's art students for their participation in the Hopkins County Dairy Festival!
