"Schooley Creek Actors" Entertain With
Dinner Theater, in Miller Grove, Thursday Night

It was a "barrel of laughs" as the Miller Grove Theater Arts class, presented their latest dinner theater production, on Thursday night, before a large crowd of community supporters. The evening began with a delicious Mexican food meal of enchiladas, Spanish rice, pinto beans, chips, salsa, and all the trimmings, in the hosted Miller Grove Cafetorium. Then, following a slight delay because of actors involved in a baseball match-up, in nearby Cumby, the students began their one-act play, to the delight of the crowd. The play had won zone competition and advanced to the District level, this year, and was entitled, "The Forgotten Door' by Gregory A. Falls.

 

 

 

In Zone competition, Cody Marler received Best Actor; Dylan Sims received All-Star Cast, and Kelsey Steele received the Tech Award; as Nicole Hall and Connor Hall receive Honorable Mention designations. Then, in district competition, Connor Hall was named to the All-Star Cast, Dylan Sims was named to the All-Star Cast, Kelsey Steele received the Tech Award, and Madison Penny and Cody Marler received Honorable Mention designation.

 

 

  

 

 

The story line of the production involved Jon, a boy from another world, who accidentally falls through a forgotten door to Earth, losing his memory, but retaining his ability to communicate with animals and hear peoples' thoughts. He is warned of the danger by a deer, and narrowly escapes peril throughout his adventure. He happens upon the farm of kindly Mary and Thomas Bean. Jon's supernatural abilities are almost immediately apparent to Mary, and she suspects that he is otherworldly. Thomas, her husband, is skeptical, at first. Word Travels fast in the small community (much like in Miller Grove), about the genius boy staying on the Bean farm. Mary and Thomas realize there is precious little time to take Jon elsewhere before everyone from threatening neighbors to the CIA try to get their hands on him. The military and the press are closing in on the house when Jon hears his father's voice calling him from their world. Jon realizes the door is open again, and without a moment to lose, the three of them steal away through the woods on a moonless night, guided by the voice of Jon's father, to seek the forgotten door.
