

Annual MLK Awards Ceremony
Set for January 21st
From East Caney Baptist Church
Always one of the first major events in Hopkins County, after the beginning of the new year, this year's 22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony has been scheduled for Monday night, January 21st at the Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Hopkins County native, Alva Adams, Jr., of Arlington, as the keynote speaker. Adams who grew up in Hopkins County and graduated from SSHS, now serves as the District Manager for the Chrysler Corporation.
The annual tribute to Dr. King and the legacy that he left behind is sponsored by East Caney Missionary Baptist Church and Hopkins County African American Leadership Conference. The public is invited to come share the program and attend a reception following the ceremony, honoring the awards winners, in the fellowship hall of the church. The reception is sponsored by Alliance Bank and Wal-Mart.

Master of ceremonies will be Dr. Dan Jones, president of Texas A&M-Commerce.
The 2013 awards and honorees are:
Clayton McGraw will receive the MLK Man of the Year award and Patricia Cooper will be presented the MLK Woman of the Year Award.

Spirit of Fellowship, W.C. Pryor.
Achievement awards will be presented to Dewayne Berry, Dee-Dee Berry, Marlon Alexander, Keiston Alexander, Melvin Person, Glenda Brown and Amiel Brown.

Choice of Excellence to Claudia Boyd;
Minister of the Year, Ken Pate;
Leadership award, Marc Maxwell;
Youth of the Year, Willie Ivery;

Gary McLarry; Spirit of Dedication, Joel Tiemeyer.
The MLK Wife Award will be presented to Hillary Young and the MLK Teachers of the Year are Toi Crook, Silvesta Alexander, Ashanta Alexander and Lawson Crook.
The Spirit of Committment award recipient will be Travis Berry.
MLK Scholars, Sulphur Springs High School students: Zakya Ivery, Courtney Crook, Isaac Lamb, Isaiah Lacy, Chaliya Moore, Addison Lamb, Christopher Miles, Chanti Hill, Triniti Hill and Larry Pryor, Jr.
MLK Scholars from Texas A&M-Commerce are Bryon Tennison, Thris Greer, Victor Foreman, Markeith Wilburn, Michael Edmond, Unswella Ankton, Shelia Thomas, Shanequa Irving and Marchell Williams.
Program personalities will include Alva Adams, Dr. Dan Jones, Mick Trusty, Rep. Dan Flynn, Judge Robert Newsom, Kerry Craig, W.C. Pryor and Pastor H. B. Nash.
