Jazz, Roots-N-Blues Festival
Popular Music Venue on Saturday
by: Bobby McDonald
Following a rainy start to Saturday's 5k Milk Run and the 49th Annual Hopkins County Dairy Festival Parade, the day ended on a "high note," as folks made their way to the Downtown Business Alliance sponsored, Jazz, Roots, and Blues Festival, on the downtown square. The weather had managed some cooler temperatures and the atmosphere was pleasant.
"It's nice out here listening to good music and enjoying friends and family," expressed one local resident who had brought her lawn chair and family to the square. "It's nice to see the businesses in this area cooperating and looking for ways to enhance our downtown area, along with the revitalization projects."
"You've got to admire those businesses that can 'keep their chin up' when their business is located on Main Street and they still have the fortitude to sponsor something like this," expressed another patron. "They certainly have a vision for Sulphur Springs to undergo all of the turmoil while trying to operate during the construction phase!"
"What is really exciting about this concert, is the number of young people that have come tonight," expressed one of the hosting businesses. "This concert has attracted a large following and many, many of them are the young people of our area, so that's really promising!"
Meanwhile, down on Main Street, another group of individuals were attending the wine tasting offered by Judy's Kitchen, where she featured the wines of Hopkins County Winery, Lou Viney's Winery. "This was wonderful!" expressed a couple who was here for the day, and dropped-in to taste the flavor of Sulphur Springs. "This is a great way to end a very entertaining day in Sulphur Springs. We plan to go enjoy the music on the square and then head back to our motel!"

Certainly there was a wide variety of events to attend on Saturday in Sulphur Springs, from milking contests, to parades, milk runs, and horse shows, but despite all of the tired local folks that were almost past going by Saturday night, folks were asking what other venues were available, once they were leaving the Ice Cream Freeze-Off. Couples and families were "dropping-by" the local Chamber of Commerce Office asking for directions to other events, so all the hard work paid-off, to provide a full day of activities for those visiting our city.
Barefoot Texans was one of the local groups that performed on Saturday night.
"Piggy-backing events, like we did on Saturday, makes for a very full day for volunteers," exclaimed Sandi Wallace, a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board and the Downtown Business Alliance. "But, from the out-of-town visitors' comments, this is what they like to see, events happening all over town, that they can spend the entire day in your city. It just means that everyone must cooperate and make certain that we work together to provide these kind of venues for visitors!"
