Topping the Class of 2008 at North Hopkins High School are seniors Megan Lehr and Cayla Newkirk. Megan earned the Valedictorian position in the class with a 5.0729 grade-point average and Cayla followed with a 4.8404 average over her four years of high school studies, to be named Salutatorian of the class.

Megan Lehr is the daughter of Janet and Barry Lehr of Sulphur Springs and plans to attend Texas A&M-Commerce, pursuing a degree in finance. She has been a member of the BETA Club all four years of high school and has served her senior class as vice-president. She has participated in UIL all four years of high school and was a state competitor in headling writing, her sophomore year. She has participated in basketball and track, where she was named to the 2nd Team All-District her junior and senior years and to the Academic All State Team, this year. She qualified in for the regional track meet in both shotput and discus and enjoys participation and competition in sports.

 

Cayla Newkirk is the daughter of Cindy and Thurman Newkirk and the grandaughter of Thurman and Rubie Newkirk, Sr.  She also has a younger sister, Colton. Cayla has plans to attend Texas Woman's University, in Denton, and pursue a degree in nursing. She hopes for a career in Obstetrics Nursing.

Cayla has been an active member of the North Hopkins UIL Team, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a four year member of the BETA Club. She received the Presidential Scholarship from TWU and served as treasurer of the 2008 senior class. She was a member of the BETA Club skit that placed first at state, this year. She was named Prom Queen and earned the Panther Spirit Award all four years in high school. She was named a homecoming princess in 2005.

Megan and Cayla will lead the class of 2008 Graduates at North Hopkins High School at Baccalaureate Services on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., in the school gym. Commencement services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Honor Graduates of the class include: Asheley Deaton, Megan Lehr, Brandi Loper, Jessica Mannis, Cayla Newkirk, Ashlie Newman, Roger Sancho, Angelina Ugalde, and Robert White.
