Birthright - The North Hopkins Panthers got a measure of revenge Saturday as they ran past Prairiland 66-51 to take home the consolation championship in the Freeman Parish Tournament. The Patriots had defeated the Panthers two weeks ago by 16 points. "It was really a good win for us," Coach Clay Pirtle said. "All the hard work is starting to pay off. We did a much better job on defense for the entire game and it has been the difference. After dropping the first game to tournament finalist Mt. Vernon, the Panthers reeled off a 56-50 win over a tough Tom Bean squad. Down 50-48 with little time left, freshman Alfredo Orozco, hit a three point shot from the corner to put the Panthers up 51-50. Tom Bean never recovered. Senior River Milam poured in 19 points with Silas Whaley hitting for 16.

Against Prairiland, The Panthers started fast taking a 15-4 first quarter led by Whaley's 45 foot swisher at the buzzer to end the period. Whaley and Jessie Williams each had 17points with Milam adding 12.

The girls consolation championship went to Campbell who blasted Cumby 57-36 behind 24 points from Haley Davidson including four treys.

In the tournament finals Leonard whipped Mt. Vernon 76-47 on the boy's side.
