by: Bobby McDonald
Fire caused extensive damage to a rural, two-story home, on Hopkins County Road 3504, Monday, in the Mahoney Community, as local firefighters responded to the blaze. Those at the scene indicated that the occupants were home when the fire started and that the blaze began in a shop area, that was attached to the back of the home. The Hopkins County Units responded to the blaze immediately and called for back-up from other volunteer fire departments, including: North Hopkins, Tira, Brinker, Sulphur Bluff, and other departments.
Exhausted firemen were taking breaks from fighting the blaze
in the intense heat.
Firemen were still on the scene at 3:00 p.m. and had the blaze under control. However, they were using "pumper trucks" from the various departments to continue to put water on the blaze.

Area firemen were exhausted after fighting the blaze in the intense heat, and local EMT units were present to monitor the firemen, as they took breaks.
