Approximately 6,000 Attend
"One Month to Live," Sunday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
Kerry Shook, author of the series "One Month to Live," addresses approximately
6,000 people from the greater Hopkins County area, on Sunday night, in the Hopkins
County Civic Center.
The song says, "Greater things have still to be done, in this city!" And, if Sunday night's crowd in the Hopkins County Civic Center was an indication, we have plenty of "warriors" to get it done, as approximately 6,000 people came to the arena to hear Kerry Shook, of The Woodlands," outline his plan for the series "One Month to Live." Amidst television cameras from "ABC's Nightline" and among thousands of witnesses, local Christians pledged to "Live Like You're Dying," through March 7th, as they embark on a "live without regrets!"
Tim McGraw's popular song says, "I went sky diving, I went Rocky Mountain climbing, I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fumanchu. And, I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter, and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying. He said, someday I hope you get the chance to live like you are dying!"
However, Shook compared the thirty day exercise to the life of Christ, who knew "thirty days out, when he was going to die!" Shook challenged those present to: "Live Passionately, Love Completely, Learn Humbly, and Leave Boldly, as Christ demonstrated, before going to the cross!"

He compared the journey to a family vacation, where a young twenty-something "kid" was leading them through coral reefs, on wave runners, going in excess of 40 mph. "As long as we stayed in his wake, we were o.k. Likewise, as long as we stay in God's plan, we can go full throttle in life!" admonished Shook. "God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things!"
Shook compared the Christian life, here on earth, to a roller coaster he knew as a child, growing up in Oklahoma City, called "The Big Dipper." "You're going to be going up and down, the bottom is going to drop out from beneath you, take your breath, and then you're going to go through some dark, dark tunnels, where you can't see anything," warned Shook. "And, it's going to be over with much, much quicker than you think!"
"My family enjoys vacations on the beach," stated Shook. "And, the kids loved to build sand castles, that they couldn't believe would be washed away, when the tide came in. How many of us are building 'sand castles' here on earth that are going to be washed away, when the 'great' tide comes in, and we leave this world?"
"If you stick to this 30 day plan, you'll be more alive than you've ever been, after learning how to put your priorities in order, and make a legacy toward something that will last," admonished Shook, in his closing.
"Don't be afraid your life will end; be afraid that it
will never begin!"
