Panthers Take District
Win in Sims

From Coach Larry Tucker

Sims - The North Hopkins Panthers raced to a commanding 19-4 first quarter lead and coasted to a 63-49 District 16A win over James Bowie. The Panthers had a balanced scoring attack and played tough on the defensive end of the floor.

"We played a very aggressive defense forcing turnovers and hustling after the ball," Coach Clay Pirtle said. "We moved the ball on offense the best we have all year. It was just a great team effort."

The Panthers had a 30-17 lead at intermission, and were ahead 48-31 going into the final eight minutes.

The Panthers tossed in six three point shots with Kevin Meza hitting four of the treys and Silas Whaley and Terance Berry each hitting one. Coming off an ankle injury that has kept him off the court recently, Whaley led the Panthers with 13 points and caused numerous Pirate turnovers on defense. Meza had 12, Jesse Williams 11 with Blake Adams and Berry each posting nine points. River Milam had five points and Alfredo Orozco hit four markers.

The game will follow the girl's and boy's JV games and the girl's varsity with the first tip-off at 4:40 pm. The Lady Panthers will play around 6:30 pm with boy's to follow at approximately 8:00 pm.
