Saturday's Photowalk Attracts
Approximately 40 Photographers
by: Bobby McDonald
Local photographers "converge" on the downtown area, Saturday
morning, as they participate in the first Downtown Photowalk.
"It's truly gratifying to find that there are this many people interested in photography, in the Sulphur Springs area," expressed Mike Laeding, the leader of Saturday's Photowalk, as he addressed the group gathered in Plain and Fancy Sandwich Shoppe, at 9:00 a.m. "Hopefully, you can learn some techniques, notices some things you've never noticed before, and spend a morning of fun and excitement, as we all share ideas and observe."

Saturday's event.
Laeding then led the group out the front door and east toward College Street, pointing to points of interest and making participants stop and look at a variety of suggestions, he shared, for making quality shots. "I want you to learn to 'think out of the box' and notice things you've never noticed before," allowed Laeding, as he led the group and allowed them to discover for themselves.
Local "shutterbugs" were seen aiming their cameras at a variety of subjects,
on the downtown square, Saturday morning.
Participants in Saturday's Photowalk represented all ages and all levels of proficiency, as well as represented a wide array of cameral equipment. "Photography is a way of capturing the moment and expressing your thoughts and observances," allowed Downtown Business Alliance President, Perry Altenbaumer. "We want everyone to enjoy the morning and learn more about our downtown area!"
Saturday morning's shoot in downtown Sulphur Springs coincided with the 3rd Annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, that was taking place all across the globe. However, this year's winners in the local contest will not be eligible to enter the worldwide contest, due to a missed deadline, to enter the local walk. "But, we can all have a good time and hopefully be able to host a contest next year that is entered in the worldwide event," continued Altenbaumer.

Some 40 plus individuals joined Saturday morning's leaders and captured a number of things "on camera" that was their interpretation of life in the downtown area of our city.
"It was great!" exclaimed one of Saturday's participants. "I'm excited to meet all these other people who have the same interests and passion in photography, just to exchange ideas!"
Those participating in Saturday's Photowalk, were encouraged to enter their best shots in a contest that will name the winners, on next Saturday.
Perry Altenbaumer, left, tells Photowalk participants how to enter their photos in the contest,
via electronic tranfer, as the walk ended at Plain and Fancy Sandwich Shoppe.
Below are some "non-entry" shots that I got on Saturday morning, and watch for those photos that will be selected as this year's winner, to be posted, following next Saturday's award presentation.
