Dramatic Cat Rescue In Pickton
by: Bobby McDonald

Who says it doesn't pay to attend church services regularly? Well, don't try to convince a cat in Pickton, that it doesn't! It seems that on Wednesday night, members of the Pickton United Methodist Church noticed a cat, outside the church in a large oak tree. Most of the group didn't think much about it, just thinking that the cat had climbed the tree. However, when they noticed the same cat, in the same tree, on Sunday, they realized that it couldn't come down, on its own!

Following Sunday church services, Polly Swatsell and her brother, Mike Turner, decided to come to the rescue of the cat, that had remained in the tree, at least since Wednesday.

"We first decided to get an extension ladder, but as luck would have it, it wasn't tall enough to reach the cat!" related Swatsell. "Then, we decided to back a truck up to the tree and anchor the ladder in the back of the truck! That's when my daughter insisted that she be the one to climb the ladder!"

Finally, after over two hours of work, the cat was retrieved and safely on the ground, where it was given food and water. "I hope it has sense enough not the climb back up that tree!" advised Swatsell.
