Partial GED Completers Must Finish by the End of 2013

Intake Sessions for GED and ESL Classes Fast Approaching

Every ten years, a new General Educational Development (GED) campaign is launched. When that happens, those test-takers who have passed portions of the GED must pass all of it or they will have to start over. To alert test-takers they need to finish, the GED Testing Service has announced a new closeout campaign, “Your Future is Calling.”

“GED test-takers have until the end of 2013 to pass all portions of the GED,” said Paris Junior College Testing Center Coordinator Callie Thompson. “Those who have taken the 2002 Series GED Test, but not passed all five parts, must pass by the deadline or they will have to start over again in 2014. So we want to be sure everyone is aware of this deadline.”

“More than a million adults have started but not finished the current GED test,” Thompson added. “Those needing to finish should get in touch with the Adult Education program at PJC, attend an intake session, and finish the test.”

The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and college programs for more than 18 million graduates since 1942. Last year nearly 800,000 adults sat for the GED test, which is accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and employers. The GED test is now offered on computer at authorized testing centers only; it is never offered online at home and people should beware of scammers offering that service. New GED courses will also teach computer skills.

Attendance at the intake sessions is mandatory to be able to sign up for GED and ESL courses. The next intake session for English as a Second Language (ESL) begins October 12.

October 26 kicks off the next of the general GED intake sessions at Paris Junior College.

“The intake sessions are required so the student can take care of registration paperwork and receive assessment testing to assure they are in the correct session,” said PJC Adult Education Director Krista McAdamis. “This must be taken care of before they can begin their actual class.”

All GED and ESL intake sessions will be held at the PJC – Sulphur Springs Center.

Upcoming intake sessions are scheduled as follows. GED: Friday, October 19, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 22 from 6:00-10:00 p.m.; and Friday, Dec. 7, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. ESL: Monday, November 12 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday, December 14 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
