Wood Allen's
"Play It Again, Sam"
Opens at Main Street Theater, Thursday
by: Bobby McDonald
Allen Felix (Woody) discusses his dating woes with his best friend's
wife, Linda Christie (played by Janlyn Therwhanger), prior to
a night on the town.
Blindsided by a divorce, Allen Felix is suddenly thrown into the world of dating, after approximately 20 years of marriage and finds the "field" anything but desirable, as he struggles with fears, inadequacies, and personal doubt. This sets the stage for Woody Allen's "Play it Again, Sam!" That opens at Main Street Theater, on Thursday night, September 27th and will continue for six performances, September 28th & 29th and October 4th, 5th, and 6th. Curtain Call is at 7:00 p.m. nightly.
Set in the apartment of Allen Felix, the comedy is sure to appeal to anyone who might have considered the "world of dating" once removed from the high school-college scene. Allen played by David Woody is "thrown" into the scene after several years "off the market" and must overcome fears and decided what he actually desires in a woman, with few of them "measuring up." There's the intellectual type, the "go-go" girl, the constant and habitual complainer, and other type women that are paraded before him, and he must overcome his biases in his search, as his mentor, Humphrey Bogart, "coaches" him through his intellect.

In the final analysis, Allen must learn to act on his own and be himself, as he searches for the mate of his choice.
The production is a delightful comedy, creatively played by local actors, as they bring the production to life, with strong characterization and expert dialogue.
