Opening ceremonies for this year's Relay for Life Campaign, got underway at 7:00 p.m., at the SS Middle School Track, with the posting of the colors, by the Hopkins County Military Coalition, and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, by cancer survivor, Kim Baxter. Then, the action moved to the track where hundreds of local cancer survivors walked the traditional Survivors' Lap, led by none other than Wally the Wildcat, who sported his own "survivor shirt." The Sulphur Springs High School Cheerleaders aided in escorting the survivors around the track, as well as the members of the Blue Blazes Drill Team.

Action continued with the Luminaria Ceremony at 9:00 p.m., and music and entertainment all night. The campaign ended at approximately 7:00 a.m., on Saturday morning.
