Raised to $8500.00

Word has been received that the reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the vandalism to the Hopkins County Veterans' Memorial, has been raised to $8,500.00. We reported earlier that at combination of $2500.00 for each of the Veterans' Memorial Committee and the City of Sulphur Springs had been raised. However, Sulphur Springs Crimestoppers has added an additional $3000.00 to the reward and an anonymous donor has added another $500.00, in hopes of catching those responsible for the destruction.

"Hopefully with this kind of money, someone will aid us in finding those responsible for the action," allowed a member of the Crimestoppers Board. "We want those responsible to be apprehended and charged with this crime that they have committed, against the memory of those that have served our country and their families!"

Last Friday morning, it was discovered that someone had taken a stone and inscribed a number of words and symbols on the newly constructed memorial, on the downtown square, defacing the stones and requiring the removal of the graffiti.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Sulphur Springs Police Department, at (903)885-7602.
