With the excitement of some of the downtown Sulphur Springs buildings being under contract, Downtown Business Alliance members decided to "go on the road," Sunday afternoon and sample the cuisine at Nodding Dog Cafe and Bistro, in Oak Cliff. The establishment is owned by Gus Trevino and Darren Humphries, who have a contract on two buildings in the downtown Sulphur Springs area, and plan to open business in our downtown. "And, we were very impressed," exclaimed Rita Edwards, President of the Downtown Business Alliance. "The Desserts at the establishment were 'to die for,' and then they gave us a guided tour of the Bishop Arts District, so that we could get some ideas for Downtown Sulphur Springs!"

"The Bistro & Cafe is noted for its delicious pastries and desserts," inserted Maggie Mae Sherrow. "We sampled Lemon Cake, Carrot Cake, and German Chocolate Cake, to just name a few of the things offered from the menu. And, they have scones, muffins, cookies, etc."

Ten members of the Downtown Business Association made a "good-will" road trip to the
Bishop Arts District to patronize the Nodding Dog Cafe & Bistro, and to let the owners know
how happy they are that they have plans to locate in Sulphur Springs.

All of the desserts in the Nodding Dog Cafe and Bistro are "made from scratch." They plan to open the same type business in Sulphur Springs, from a location on Main Street, and then have plans to open a steakhouse on the Downtown Square. "We're really excited about them coming to Sulphur Springs and bringing these types of businesses to the Downtown area," exclaimed Joy Wilson. "It will be great to have places like this to eat and enjoy in Sulphur Springs."

Making the trip from Sulphur Springs were: Edwards, Sherrow, Wilson, Jackie Thornton, Billie Ruth Standbridge, Angela Hampton, Judy Gilreath, Tammy Olague, Ed Olague, and Susan Jones. The group left after church on Sunday, at 12:30 p.m., and arrived back home at approximately 7:00 p.m., full of ideas to implement in Sulphur Springs.

"Gus and Darren showed us a variety of specialty businesses that were their neighbors in the Bishop Arts District," allowed Edwards. "There were Soda Shoppes, Vintage Clothing Shops, Antique Stores, a Designer Soap Store, and Bookstores, that are in the same area, and would make great additions to the Downtown Sulphur Springs business climate. Hopefully, we will have some of the same type businesses that will be interested in locating in Sulphur Springs, once the renovations begin and our plan is more established!"

The same group of individual Downtown Business Association members plan to make other "road trips" to explore others who are interested in locating in the Downtown area, so that they can meet the prospective business owners and become familiar with the type businesses that would be attracted to Sulphur Springs.
