"First Ever" Rotary Club Beauty Pageant
Names New Officers, at Noon Thursday

"Grand Potentate," outgoing president, Craig Roberts, arrived in all of his finery, following his attempt
at "flying" from City National Bank....he must have found a soft landing! Some in the audience discussed
that he might look more like "Bernie Tiede."

"Johnny on the spot," we arrived at the corner of Gilmer and Atkins Street, in Sulphur Springs, to cover the "First Ever" Rotary Club Beauty Pageant. We'd been forewarned to "watch the skies. Suddenly, an apparition came floating across from City National Bank. Bystanders said, "It's a bird! It's a plane! No, that's Craig Roberts, outgoing president of the Rotary Club!"

Roberts must have found a soft landing somewhere, as he was none too "banged up." A witness behind the scenes elaborated that they saw him land in a stand of crepe myrtle bushes, dust off his pants, and head for the church!

Once inside, he called on Brandon Williams, complete with tux, bow tie, and tails, to introduce the District Potentate (Assistant District Governor) John Sellers, who served as the emcee for the pageant. Potentate Sellers gave a bit of history about the organization and delivered the "swearing-in" of the newly elected pageant participants.
