Rotary Club "Goes Pink," Thursday,
With a Few Surprises!!!

Sulphur Springs Rotary Club President, Craig Roberts, had challenged the Sulphur Springs Rotary Club members to a "pink out" in support of Breast Cancer Month, for their regular Thursday noon meeting. But, all agreed, that even Craig received a few surprises! No one was expecting the appearance of "Ronnette," who some identified as Ronny Glossup's sister! With "hot pink" wig, "Ronnette" aided in the singing of "A White Coat and A Pink Carnation," and "delighted" the crowd with a few "side jokes!"

However, the noon club, "did get serious" and managed to collect almost $250.00 to donate to Breast Cancer research, as the club's contribution.

And, it was surprised members, Markeda Fisher and Kayla Price, that accepted at $500.00 donation for the 2011 United Way Campaign, when they were called to the front of the room and presented with a check!

Jerry Behren presented a great program on Hand Gun Use by the Probation Officers and the reason that they are needed in the field, as officers go about their daily work. He used the October 16, 1991 shooting in a Killeen restaurant, to demonstrate the necessity of using hand guns in our society today. Twenty-three people were killed and another 20 injured, in that incident, when a lone gunman drove his truck into the restaurant, where citizens were enjoying lunch. "A peace officer with a hand gun, could possibly have prevented such carnage, had he or someone else had a hand gun and was trained to use it!" related Behren.

Behren outlined to the Rotary Club the training this is required and the skills that he and others must maintain to keep their license and to use hand guns in their work.

A question and answer session by Behren was utilized following his presentation, where a number of questions were answered from the group!

Roberts adjourned the meeting with a reminder of the Hopkins County Stew Contest on Saturday, and the need for members to "sign up" for the S.O.C.K. program, where the Rotary Club is adopting Austin Elementary School.
