A Royal Reception For the Queens
Hosted by Mary and Rhonda
by: Bobby McDonald

It was truly a royal reception for the Former Hopkins County Dairy Festival Queens, following the 50th Anniversary Dairy Festival Parade, as they made their way to the palacial home of Mary Bonham, on Interstate-30 East. The luncheon hosted by Mary, her daughter, Rhonda Adair, and members of the 50th Anniversary Committee, was a wonderful respite from the heat, and catered by Mary Lou Wright.

"Everytime I'm back in Sulphur Springs and pass by Mary's house, I've wished for just a glimpse," expressed one of the Former Queens. "And, it's just as lovely as you can imagine from the road!"

"We wanted to provide the Former Queens with a unique experience and something here in Hopkins County that they had probably never done, so we asked Mary to host the event," explained Lynda Hager, 50th Committee Member. "And, Mary and Rhonda so graciously accepted to open the home and grounds for us to enjoy!"

The "sweltering"heat of the parade was quickly forgotten, as Former Queens visited and toured the home and then exited to the garden for a wonderful luncheon. "This was a highlight of the entire weekend!" exclaimed Morna Harry Moss, 1969 Hopkins County Dairy Festival Queen. "Mary's home is awesome and we had the opportunity to relax and 'catch-up' with what was happening in the lives of the other queens!"

"I can't think of anything that would have been any more appropriate for the luncheon," expressed Judy Jackson Deaton, 1964 Queen. "I was able to tour Mary's lovely home and then sit down and visit with the queens before and after me, and enjoy where life has taken them!"

Mary and Rhonda offered a lovely gift to each Former Queen and guest, as a parting gift.
