Saltillo Lions Build Homecoming Excitement
With Win Over Avinger
by: Bobby McDonald
A "red hot" Avinger Indian Team, ranked #2 in district, behind Saltillo, came to Homecoming, Friday night, and created a very interesting ballgame for fans. Intent on "upsetting" the Homecoming activities, the Indians proved to be a formidable opponent for the Lions. The game was tied 19-all at the end of the first quarter of play and the Indians then managed to take a three-point advantage to the halftime intermission. However, it was an explosive third quarter for the Lions, after the naming of the Homecoming Queen was announced, and the Lions "got down to business." They outscored the Indians by 15 points and managed another 10 point advantage in the fourth period.
The game with the Indians proved what they will be facing in the play-offs, and gave the Lions (8-0 in district) a work-out in having to never lose sight of the prize and coming back when you're down!

And, it certainly made for an exciting game in Saltillo, before a packed homecoming crowd, on Friday night!
