Half of Hopkins County was in Commerce, on Tuesday night, for the Regional 3 Quarterfinals, to see the game between the Roxton Lions and our own Saltillo Lions. The Lions truly gave it their all, and held Roxton through the first half of the game. However, it soon was obvious why Roxton is ranked #1 in the state. The Saltillo Lions lost the exciting match-up 73-53.
"Roxton is definitely good and you can truly see why they are ranked at the top," expressed one devoted Saltillo fan. "They boys held them during the first two periods, but they proved to be too much, during the second half of the game, and a strong bench to keep bringing in relief, helped them to stay fresh throughout the game."

The Saltillo Lions trailed by one point, 15-16, at the end of the first period. And, the Roxton Lions extended that lead to 35-25 by the halftime intermission.
The second half saw the Roxton Lions advancing ten more points over Saltillo, as the game "slipped away." Roxton led 56-39 at the end of the third period and "racked up" a total score of 73-53 final total, to advance in Regional play.
