The Annual Salty Dog Squirrel Hunt
by: Bobby McDonald
It's become a tradition, for the first Weekend in October, for a large group of Delta and Hopkins County residents, as well as those who have "roots" there, to meet on the banks of the South Sulphur River for the annual Salty Dog Squirrel Hunt. Deep in the woods and at a camp established years ago by naturalist, Eddie Trapp, the following gathers for hunting, storytelling, and a big pot of squirrel stew!
And, this year's event was no exception, the food was great, the company was superb, and the story's were a series of "tall tales!"
If you don't believe the "tall tales," just ask Eddie how "Catfish Corner" got its name!!!
It's a weekend of fun, relaxation, and a place that most of the time you can escape the cell phone, the I-pad, and the computer, and where "time stands still" for a few days of enjoying life in the woods.
Enjoy these photos of the Salty Dog Squirrel Hunt:
The practical jokes are many.....as are evident in these photos
of "Ol' Pete" in the ice chest......
Plenty of tender wild boar on the grill.....
A few squirrels......
And, "Zack," Trapps' dog was the King of the whole outfit.....as he
presided over the campfire and took short hunting expeditions
throughout the event!
Life is good on the South Sulphur.......
