"Hanging on for dear life....but what a ride!"
UPRA Spring Rodeo "Winds Down"
With Climactic Saturday Night Performance
by: Bobby McDonald
Mutton Bustin'
Maybe not intentionally, but the Saturday night performance of the UPRA Spring Rodeo in Sulphur Springs, quickly became the "rowdiest" and best performance of the three-day run of the schedule, as rough stock, outstanding rides, and competitive action, took center stage. It was also the time for the crowning of the new Hopkins County UPRA Queen and her court, as well as a number of active participation events for the youth of Hopkins County, such as mutton bustin', a calf scramble, and a boot scramble.
The Grand Entry....
The night's events began with the Mutton Bustin' Contest for the little kids and soon, had the Grand Entry filling the arena with a parade of top horses and their riders, who would be competing throughout the night!
Bareback Bronc Riding
From the opening ride, as the saddle bronc burst out of the chute, until one of the pick-up men, loosened this girth and closed the curtain on the performance, it was a non-stop, action-filled, night in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, with some of the best scores of the event, being turned-in, by the cowboys and cowgirls.

UPRA Rodeo will be returning to Sulphur Springs and the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, in November, when the UPRA will conduct their Rodeo Finals, in the same venue.
